KIRIWKIW FOLKDANCE
Every filipino has it's own creativeness when it comes in dancing, it has a particular dances such as folkdance, hiphop, latin dance, dancesport, cheerdance and many more. And we are going to perform a folkdance. Folkdance is a popular dance, considered as part of the tradition or custom of a particular people. Kiriwkiw is a folkdance which we are going to perfome, kiriwkiw is the dance originated from ibajay Aklan, and derived it's name from the local word"kiriw" , which means shake or shaking. Sure enough the dance involves a lot of shaking of the hands, legs, and body of the dancers and it's performed energy and quick body movements it is a jolly dance which where we dance it with so much full of energy and fun. The music was originally played using he lips and a leaf instrument, and was later refined and interpreted by a popular orchestra from Ibajay.
The kiriwkiw dance is a folkdance that requires couples o mirror dance step and come together in an open arm position. The dance begins by hopping on the foot wih arms spread high in a V shape . Then couples come together and sway with a hopping motion . The dance is very upbeat and full of energy thats why we choose this dance because it's not boring and you will love to watch us while we are dancing because of the steppings which is very energetic.
In our costume we are wearing a bell sleeve in the upper that can be either long or short and is usually set smoothly into the armscye and flares toward the bottom, bells sleeves end anywhere from the elbow to the wrist. Flare sleeves ending at the upper bicep are similarly shaped, but are instead called "butterfly sleeves". And at the lower part is a patadyong, patadyong is a pre spanish wrap around loose skirt worn by filipina women particularly in the lowland region of the visayas islands. It is similar to the "sarong" or "malong" used in Mindanao and Indonesia, but instead of the batik patterns. It is usually worn by a kimona (a blouse that was a traditionally made of pineapple fiber.) In this dance our group or members are in barefoot while dancing because it is required in the dance of kiriwkiw.
And as we perform this dance we've been experience a lot of argue in each others member. And as we do our practice there is lot of "Why". But as the times go by we perform it not so perfectly but it is indeed fun and worth it where we also gain another memories with our group that surely be treasured. Enjoy watching. :)
